Henderson Fire Department Offers Fentanyl Awareness Training

Post Date:01/29/2024 9:02 AM
HENDERSON, Nev. (Jan. 29, 2024) – The Henderson Fire Department will offer fentanyl awareness and response training as part of the First Six Community Lifesaver Training curriculum.

Courses will now include training about the dangers of fentanyl and demonstrations on how to administer Narcan, an FDA-approved drug given to reverse the effects of an overdose. Up to 30 overdose kits will also be available at each class, based on availability, in conjunction with the City's Risk It All with Fentanyl awareness campaign and the Southern NV Health District.

“Fentanyl-related overdoses are on the rise, and this critical addition to First Six classes emphasizes the City’s efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl to keep our residents, especially our youth, safe and informed,” said Fire Chief Shawn White. “I’m proud of our work, and thankful to the City’s Community Development and Services Office of Public Response for enhancing these classes with us.”

The First Six minutes are crucial in an emergency, and HFD counts on residents to make a difference until responders arrive. The First Six Community Lifesaver Training can provide you the skills to help save a life, including:
• Hands-Only CPR
• Emergency Bleeding Control
• Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Fentanyl Awareness and Narcan Training
• PulsePoint Responder App: Receive alerts to help nearby citizens in need

Classes are open to adults and children aged 12 or older with an adult. The next class is scheduled for Feb. 3 and is hosted monthly.
