Firefighter Trainee Position Information

Firefighter Trainees are part-time employees for the City of Henderson Fire Department who are hired to fill anticipated vacancies in the Firefighter ranks. Those in the Firefighter Trainee classification will be transferred to the Firefighter position before any additional Firefighters are hired from a recruitment process.

Firefighter Trainees will attend an 18-22 week City-paid Firefighter training academy and receive fire services training to prepare for the position of Firefighter. After successfully graduating the Firefighter training academy, Firefighter Trainees typically work approximately 24 hours per week, in various divisions of the Fire Department. This schedule includes flexible hours and varying shifts; we anticipate they will work 2-3 days per week, 8-12 hours per shift between 7am and 10pm. While employed as a Firefighter Trainee, incumbents may be transferred to a full-time Firefighter position if a vacancy occurs.
