The Office of the City Clerk exists to ensure the integrity of municipal governance through the administration of the electoral, legislative, and record-keeping processes.

City Clerk's Responsibilities

  • Oversee the City’s legislative process, including reviewing ordinances and resolutions for accuracy and consistency and ensuring completion of the codification process.
  • Administer and facilitate the public meeting process for City Council, Redevelopment Agency and all boards and commissions.
  • Administration of municipal elections.
  • Serves as the City’s municipal corporate secretary and custodian of records.
  • Provide strategic direction to Council and Commission Services, City Archives and Records, and Election and Administrative Services Divisions.

Council and Commission Services

  • Facilitate the council meeting process.
  • Establish citywide public meeting policies, procedures, and training. Monitor compliance with Nevada Open Meeting Law.
  • Provide administrative support to all citizen advisory boards and commissions.
  • Administer ordinance and resolution codification services.

City Archives and Records

  • Establish citywide recordkeeping policies, procedures, retention schedules and training in compliance with public records laws.
  • Analyze existing and proposed software solutions to ensure compliance with recordkeeping standards.
  • Provide scanning services for departments.
  • Facilitate and monitor public records requests.
  • Maintain the City records center for the storage of semi-active and inactive records.
  • Maintain the City archives to ensure historically valuable records are preserved. Partner with local history organizations.
  • Provide full recordkeeping services to the Development Services Center (DSC)

Elections and Administrative Services

  • Administer municipal elections, candidate filing and voter services.
  • Serve as processing agency for United States passport services.
  • Develop and maintain citywide customer service standards.
  • Provide public information services including:
    • City Hall information desks and general information line.
    • Registering lobbyists.
    • Providing bid opening services for City departments.
