Professional Biography 

Jose Luis “Louie” Valdez was sworn in as City Clerk for the City of Henderson, NV in May 2021. The City Clerk’s Office performs a number of critical functions for the City, including overseeing Council & Commission Services, City Archives & Records and Elections, and Administrative Services.   

Prior to joining the City of Henderson, Louie served as Administrative Manager and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors in Napa County, CA where he oversaw all agenda management, land use and assessment appeals filings, boards and commissions services, and public records requests within the County Executive Office.  Louie also served as Clerk of the Board of Supervisors and then as Senior Management Analyst for the County Administrative Office and Board of Supervisors with the County of San Benito, CA making him one of a select number of individuals to have served in the Clerk role for two counties in California.  He also served as City Clerk in Bell, CA, Town Clerk-Administrator in Huachuca City, AZ, and Town Clerk-Administrator in Peralta, NM. 

Prior to his service in local government, Louie worked as an Adult Probation Officer with the Maricopa County Adult Probation Department in Phoenix, AZ in the Pre-trial Services Division. His assignments included the Electronic Monitoring Unit, the Defendant Monitoring Unit, the Jail Services Unit, the Misdemeanor Domestic Violence Unit in partnership with the City of Phoenix and the Work Furlough/Work Release programs.

Louie earned a Master of Public Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ and his Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) Certification from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC).  He and his wife Marcela have been married for almost 22 years.
