Maria Gamboa, CPA was named the City of Henderson’s Director of Finance in October 2022.  In this role, Maria directs, manages, and oversees the operations of the City’s Finance Department. She also collaborates with the Assistant City Manager/Chief Financial Officer, the City Council, appointed boards and commissions, and the City’s Executive Management team. In addition, she establishes, interprets, and enforces operating policies that are consistent with the Assistant City Manager/Chief Financial Officer’s objectives and organizational policies.

Maria joined the City in 2015 and served as a Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager. She was later promoted to Assistant Director of Finance, where she oversaw cash investments, financial planning, payroll, general accounting, and budget development. Additionally, Maria has served on the City’s labor negotiations team and the City’s Self-funded Insurance Committee.

Prior to Maria’s tenure at the City, she began her public accounting career as a staff associate and was subsequently promoted to principal at Piercy Bowler, Taylor and Kern (PBTK), a local full-service CPA firm. While at PBTK, Maria oversaw financial statement audits for a wide range of industries, developing a significant focus on municipalities.

Maria holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and earned her Certified Public Accountants credential through the Nevada State Board of Accountancy. Maria is also a member of the Government Finance Officers Association.
