One of the Safest Cities in America

Henderson has been named the 2nd safest large city in the US by Advisor Smith. The study on the safest cities in the United States was conducted based upon data provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Uniform Crime Reporting Data. This data contains crime reports from cities, counties, metropolitan statistical areas, and other jurisdictions around the country. Specifically, monthly crime data for violent crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, and assault, and property crimes such as burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft are provided for each jurisdiction in the data set.

National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS)

The City of Henderson Police Department is proud to be participating in the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS).  NIBRS captures details on victims, known offenders, relationships between victims and offenders, arrestees, property, and drugs involved in crimes for up to 10 offenses within a single incident, representing a substantial shift in the way the Henderson Police Department reports crime.

This reporting not only meets federal data standards, improves operations, but also better informs the public about the nature of crime occurring within the City of Henderson. With this change, the Henderson Police Department will be able to provide the community with in-depth information about victimization and offending.

Benchmark Cities

The Henderson Police Department is one of 30 law enforcement agencies who participate in the Benchmark Cities group. It was originally designed in 1997 by a core group of chief's from around the country who had department size, population and demographics (college community) in common. Extensive surveys are completed each year and reviewed at an annual conference which allows agencies to compare themselves over a wide variety of criteria and ensures they are providing the best service possible to their respective communities.
