The City of Henderson Police Department has implemented a new program known as the Internet Sales Exchange Zone. The goal of the Internet Sales Exchange Zone is to provide city residents with a location that may help reduce and deter fraudulent transactions, while maintaining the privacy of the citizens when they conduct legal, private transactions; this includes buying from or selling to a stranger due to an ad over an e-commerce web site or in other media.

The Police Department has designated two clearly marked parking spaces in the front parking lot of the north Police substation, and the west Police substation. The north and west Police substation Internet Sales Exchange hours are 8am - 4pm Monday through Friday.

The Internet Sales Exchange Zone is meant for person-to-person transactions. Property may not be dropped off and left unattended; sellers are required to take their property with them if the buyer does not show up. City of Henderson Police Department personnel will not assist with any transactions.

The City of Henderson Police Department encourages citizens to consider safer options, such as the Internet Sales Exchange Zone, when arranging a location to conduct e-commerce style transactions. City residents are encouraged to follow the following safety tips:

  • Avoid going alone to make an exchange with a stranger
  • Let your family and/or friends know the time and place of your intended exchange and any information regarding the other person
  • Avoid giving strangers your personal information, including your address, Social Security number, etc.
  • Avoid exchanges at night if possible, even in the designated zone
  • Avoid remote or out of the way places for exchanges and be wary of persons who insist on secluded locations
