Professional Biography

Judge Cooley is currently serving as Municipal Court Judge, City of Henderson, Department 2. He was unanimously appointed to that position in 2021. In addition to his regular caseload, Judge Cooley presides over the ABC Drug Court. The ABC Drug Court decreases crime by reducing recidivism among habitual misdemeanor offenders and helps them achieve long term recovery and self-sufficiency.    

Judge Cooley began his legal career in 2008, in private practice working for a large Nevada firm, primarily in business litigation. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Cooley was a criminal prosecutor for eleven years with the Henderson City Attorney’s Office. During that time, he was selected as an instructor for DUI prosecution and Constitutional Law at the Henderson Police Department and Southern Desert Regional Police Academies.

Judge Cooley earned his bachelor’s degree with honors in Speech Communication at the University of Utah. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU.

Judge Cooley is a member of the Clark County Bar Association, Nevada Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Judge Cooley also belongs to the Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction, and the American Judges Association. He is licensed to practice law in Nevada as well as U.S. District Court.

Judge Cooley is involved in our community and has volunteered as a youth sports coach, and as a leader for the Boys Scouts of America. He is active in his church as a parishioner, and has served as an instructor, and a speaker. Judge Cooley has been happily married to his wife Melissa for more than twenty years. They have six children together, of whom they are extremely proud.
