• Building Bridges: Through our activity called, “Building Bridges”, our goal is to have students understand that different shapes can or cannot hold the weight of a toy car due to force. Students learn what force is through an immersive experience.
• Paper Robots: Students will create a robot that assists them with a specific task at home. This activity teaches students what engineers are and provides them an opportunity to explore.
• Emotion Self-Portrait: Students create portraits of themselves with two thought bubbles. One for the emotion they drew and one for what made them feel that emotion. Students gain an understanding of what strong emotions are and learn how they can cope with a strong uncomfortable emotion. This activity helps them identify what makes them feel a strong positive emotion.
• Wanted Posters: Students learn what an antagonist is, then create a “Wanted Poster” of an antagonist, bad guy or villain from a book they have recently read.

Since launching the program in 2023, the City of Henderson AmeriCorps members have served approximately 1200 hours and reached 150 students across seven Henderson elementary schools.
