BLM Land Sale Auction Nomination Process

The City of Henderson is accepting requests for nominations for the 2025 Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Land Sale Auction. Interested parties should follow the instructions below and submit any nomination requests to Andrew Powell at Andrew.Powell@cityofhenderson.com no later than 5:00 PM on May 16, 2024.

Under the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act, the BLM may sell land in the Southern Nevada disposal area that has been nominated for sale by the local jurisdiction. The local jurisdiction will first complete an internal and external review process to determine if there is any public need for the land and if the land will be able to be served by all necessary infrastructure (roads, utilities, etc.).

In the City of Henderson, the nomination process begins with a staff-level review. Requested parcel(s) will be reviewed at the staff and management level, and then, if approved, forwarded to City Council for their consideration.

Once the land sales nomination process is complete and approved by the City of Henderson, it is forwarded to the BLM, which must complete certain environmental and cultural studies and prepare their documentation for public auction of the parcel(s). That process takes approximately 12 to 18 months.

Requesting BLM Land

The applicant must submit a letter requesting Henderson to nominate BLM land(s) to the City of Henderson’s Community Development and Services Department. Please be advised that the names of those nominating parcels are public information and will be provided upon inquiry. The letter must include, at a minimum, the following:

  • The Assessor’s Parcel Number (APN) and legal description of the land requested for sale;
  • The proposed use of the land;
  • The number of acres of each parcel;
  • A map clearly depicting the parcel(s) or portion thereof in the context of the surrounding vicinity; and
  • The applicant’s contact information including name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address.

Please submit these items to Andrew Powell at Andrew.Powell@cityofhenderson.com. Andrew may also be reached at 702-267-1555 if you would like additional information.
