The Department of Utility Services is proud to be an accredited agency by the American Public Works Association (APWA).

The APWA Accreditation Program recognizes agencies that go beyond the requirements of the management practices established nationally in the industry, as contained in the APWA Public Works Management Practices Manual. During the accreditation process, the Department of Utility Services was found to be in full compliance in all categories reviewed. Ten of the department's processes were recognized as model practices that should be adopted by other agencies.

Effective June 28, 2019, the Department of Utility Services became the 155th accredited agency, the fifth utility-only agency, the fourth accredited agency in Nevada, and the first utility-only agency in Nevada to receive accreditation. Maintaining the accreditation status requires an organization to be reevaluated and granted re-accreditation every four years.

“It is an honor to be the fifth utility-only agency to receive accreditation from the American Public Works Association and to be recognized for the outstanding work performed every day by our team to meet rigorous national standards in 299 practice areas,” said Director of Utility Services Priscilla Howell. “APWA accreditation is a testament to the City of Henderson’s priority to provide the highest caliber of water and wastewater services while protecting the environment, health, and prosperity of the community.”

In May 2022, the Department of Utility Services began the re-accreditation process and was granted re-accreditation on May 31, 2023 for another four-year period, which expires June 28, 2027.
