Professional Biography

Lance M. Olson, PE, WRS, was named the City’s Director of Public Works in October 2022. He is responsible for maintaining the City’s infrastructure, City municipal facilities, public rights-of-way, and the operations and maintenance of City streets, storm drains, traffic signals, and City vehicles.

Since joining the City in 2004, Lance has advanced through progressively more responsible positions within the Public Works Department and played a key role in ensuring we provide safe and integrated public buildings as well as community infrastructure for existing and future needs.

Lance began his career with the City as a Project Engineer II in Public Works and later transferred to Quality Control, where he managed public and private construction in the City.  In 2020, he was promoted to Assistant Director of Public Works, overseeing the City’s Fleet and Facilities division. Prior to his tenure with the City, Lance was an Engineering Consultant with MWH Global Inc., where he designed public and private infrastructure.

Lance holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering and has been a licensed Civil Engineer for more than 22 years. He is a member of the American Public Works Association and an alumnus of Leadership Henderson.
