  • Are water waste violations new to the City of Henderson?

Preventing water waste has been an important part of the City of Henderson’s conservation program for more than 15 years. In recent years, the City has seen an increase in outdoor water waste and as a result has increased efforts to notify customers when they are creating water waste.

  • Where can I obtain a breakdown of the fines assessed for water waste?

Prior to receiving a fine, customers first receive a courtesy warning letter for water waste. Water waste violations should be corrected as soon as possible. If violations continue to be observed, customers will be assessed administrative fines according to the table that can be found on our Violations and Administrative Fines page.

  • Must City of Henderson parks and trails abide by the same mandatory watering restrictions set forth by SNWA?

Henderson Municipal Code contains watering restrictions and requirements specifically for community use recreational turf areas, such as parks. Henderson parks operate under a Drought Response Plan and are on a watering schedule designed to help maximize water efficiency while keeping the turf available to be enjoyed by the public throughout most of the day. However, water waste violations such as overspray or runoff should be corrected as soon as possible.

If these water waste violations are observed, please assist us by reporting them at 702-267-5900 or online at the City of Henderson website.

  • Does the City of Henderson offer any help to customers wanting to reduce water waste?

Customer service specialists are available to provide tips on how to prevent water waste and use water more efficiently by calling the Customer Care Center at 702-267-5900, Monday through Thursday from 7:30am - 5:30pm.

In addition to the various water conservation programs such as the Water Smart Landscapes program (turf rebate), the Southern Nevada Water Authority also offers information for how to locate a leak, how to set your sprinkler clock and other helpful water conservation topics.

  • Who can I contact about the water waste letter that I received?

Contact the Department of Utility Services’ Customer Care Center at 702-267-5900, Monday through Thursday from 7:30am - 5:30pm.

  • The time stamp on the water waste letter I received is 3 a.m. Is this correct?

It is possible for the City of Henderson’s conservation assistants to be in your neighborhood at any time of day and on any day of the week.

  • Is landscape next to major streets owned/maintained by the City?

No, not all landscape areas next to a street are owned or maintained by the City of Henderson. Many common landscape areas are maintained by Homeowner Associations.

  • Who can report water waste?

Anyone can anonymously report water waste at Contact Henderson. Click on ‘Submit Request’ and select the ‘Conservation/Water Waste’ topic on the left-hand side, then select ‘Assist Us By Reporting Water Waste.’ The City will not share who reported the water waste with the customer.

  • Does the City have a leak alert system in place?

At this time, Henderson water meters do not have the capability to send an alert if a possible water leak is detected. The City’s partner agency, Southern Nevada Water Authority, offers a rebate coupon for Smart Leak Detectors, which sends real-time information about abnormally high water use to an application on your smartphone. Visit the Southern Nevada Water Authority website for more information.

  • I need to drain and refill my pool; do I need to contact the City of Henderson?

Yes, please call 702-267-5900 so a call center representative can flag your account for the extra water use. There is no discount for the extra water use. Make sure to drain into your sanitary sewer clean out port located on your property. If you need assistance finding your port, we suggest asking a neighbor since theirs is most likely in a similar location.  An alternative to the sanitary sewer port would be a slow drain into a bathtub. Do NOT drain into the street. This is a water waste violation. Learn more.
  • I received an automated call about high-water use, what now?

If the water use at your property is flagged for high use, this means that compared to the same time last year, your property is using significantly more water. We recommend you first check for running toilets or changes to your irrigation clock which might explain the increase. You may also want to check with your landscaper. If no changes have been made, click here for tips to finding a leak or malfunction on your property. If you have more questions, contact our Customer Service Center at 702-267-5900 Monday through Thursday 7:30am to 5:30pm.
  • Is it still water waste if my property is on a slope, causing water to run onto the sidewalk?

Properties that are on a slope are subject to the same water waste restrictions and violations as other residences. Limiting irrigation system run-times, adding a border, and other adjustments to your landscape can help you avoid run-off at your property. Visit SNWA for adjustment tips or contact our Customer Service Center at 702-267-5900 Monday through Thursday 7:30am to 5:30pm.
  • My bill is much larger than normal, could it be a mistake?

If you receive an abnormally large bill, it is possible that human error occurred. To check this, you can read your meter and compare that reading to the meter reading on your invoice. If the read on the meter is LOWER than the read on your invoice, please contact our Customer Service Center at 702-267-5900 Monday through Thursday 7:30am to 5:30pm for assistance. If the read is the same or higher, we recommend to first check your irrigation clock for increases to watering in the last month (or check with your landscaper). If no changes have been made, click here for tips to finding a leak or malfunction on your property.
