Henderson, Nev. - (January 8, 2024) On January 7th, 2024, at approximately 5:49 P.M., the City of Henderson Police and Fire Departments responded to the intersection of Lake Mead Parkway and Grand Cadence Drive in reference to a fatal collision involving four vehicles.

Preliminary investigation revealed a white Dodge pickup truck was traveling westbound, on Lake Mead Parkway, in the #2 travel lane, approaching Grand Cadence Drive. A black Hyundai sedan was stopped at a steady red signal, on westbound Lake Mead Parkway, in the # 2 travel lane. The Dodge pickup truck failed to stop at the steady red signal and rear ended the Hyundai, causing the Hyundai to collide with a black BMW SUV and a gray Ford pickup truck.

The 38-year-old driver of the Hyundai, along with a 5-year-old male passenger were pronounced deceased on scene. A 6-year-old male passenger was transported to a local area hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

Both passengers in the BMW were also transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed and impairment are considered factors in this incident.

The driver of the Dodge, 36-year-old Darryl Smith, was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries sustained from the incident. Upon release, Darryl was charged and booked into the Henderson Detention Center on the following charges:

3 counts of DUI w/death
1 count of Reckless Driving

Smith’s booking photo is attached to this news release.

Traffic at the intersection was closed for approximately 7 hours while the investigation was conducted.

As this is still an active and open investigation, no further details will be provided at this time.

The name of the decedents will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office after next of kin notifications.

The collision is being investigated as the second accident-related fatality for 2024.
