Henderson City Clerk's Office Earns Nation's Highest Election Designation

Post Date:09/13/2023 10:00 AM
HENDERSON, Nev. (Sept. 13, 2023) – The City of Henderson is proud to announce three of its City Clerk's Office members have received the nation's highest professional achievement for election officials.

Henderson City Clerk Jose Luis Valdez, City Clerk Operations Manager Kristin Harrell and Election Services Administrator April Parra, were designated as Certified Elections/Registration Administrators (CERA) at a graduation ceremony on Aug. 29.

CERA designation is achieved through a multi-year course of study taught by the Auburn University’s Master in Public Administration (MPA) faculty in partnership with the National Association of Election Officials (commonly known as the Election Center). The intent of the program is to professionalize the management of elections administration, which promotes and preserves public trust in the democratic process.

“I am proud of our team for earning this distinction, especially ahead of a busy year in 2024 where trust in elections will be paramount,” said Henderson City Manager/CEO Richard Derrick. "This certification represents our commitment to providing high performing public service."

The Henderson City Clerk’s Office helped oversee two elections in 2022 and the City’s first-ever special election on April 3, 2023, for the Ward I City Council position. Next year the Office will administer three elections: the Presidential Preference Primary Election on Feb. 6, 2024, the Primary Election on June 11, 2024, and the General Election on Nov. 5, 2024.
