HENDERSON, Nev. (Sept. 7, 2023) – The City of Henderson Department of Utility Services received consecutive accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA). 

The APWA Accreditation Program recognizes agencies that go beyond the requirements of the management practices established nationally in the industry, as contained in the APWA Public Works Management Practices Manual. 

In addition to meeting full compliance, the City of Henderson's Department of Utility Services received recognition as a national best practice for other agencies to follow.

“APWA accreditation is a testament to the City of Henderson’s priority to provide the highest caliber of water and wastewater services while protecting the environment, health, and prosperity of the community,” said Director of Utility Services Priscilla Howell. “We have a strong team of dedicated professionals who are committed to excellence.”

The Department of Utility Services began the accreditation process in May 2022 and involved a meticulous self-assessment of management and operational policies and procedures against nationally accepted standards in 299 practice areas. 

The Department of Utility Services is the first utility-only agency in Nevada to receive accreditation. Maintaining the accreditation status requires an organization to be reevaluated and granted re-accreditation every four years, and Henderson will remain accredited through 2027. The City received its first accreditation in 2019.

The Department of Utility Services is responsible for all facets of water, wastewater and reclaimed water services for the Henderson community. The department provides treatment and delivery of drinking water, collection and reclamation of wastewater, conservation outreach and education, utility infrastructure planning and management and customer and billing services.
