WHAT:
The City of Henderson is hosting a ribbon cutting and mural debut for the grand opening of its first Monarch Butterfly Garden at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve on Thursday, January 5.
The butterfly garden includes a double-sided butterfly mural commissioned by a local artist Shan Michael Evans, interpretive signage, a walking path, nectar and milkweed plants, and more.
Monarch butterflies are on the endangered species list and this butterfly garden aims to help with their preservation while providing educational opportunities to Henderson residents.
The 140-acre Bird Viewing Preserve emphasizes the importance of wildlife and plant conservation as it is home to thousands of migratory waterfowl, desert birds, native plants, and soon, the habitat for migratory monarch butterflies.
