***UPDATE***

Henderson, Nev. – (October 13, 2022) The booking photo for Mark is now attached to this release.

Henderson, Nev. – (October 12, 2022) On October 11th, at approximately 11:55 a.m., the City of Henderson Police Department responded to the 700 block of Vista Sereno Court in reference to a report of a family disturbance involving a suicidal subject.

While patrol officers were enroute, the reporting person advised their 19-year-old son, identified as Mark Ellsworth, was having a mental breakdown and he stated he would fight with officers until they killed him.  They left the residence; however, they indicated Mark was still inside.

When officers arrived at the residence, they observed black smoke and flames coming from the residence.

During the initial news briefing, it was reported that the suspect exited his residence with a long gun rifle in his hands, pointed and fired the rifle at officers, which resulted in the officer-involved shooting.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that officers made contact with Mark, who exited the residence with a long gun in his hands and pointed the weapon at the officers, but did not discharge the rifle, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.

Mark retreated back into the residence and then again exited the residence without the weapon.

Mark was placed into custody and transported to the Henderson Detention Center and charged with the following offenses:

1st Degree Arson (1 count)
Assault on a Protected Person with a deadly weapon (4 counts)

No booking photo is currently available; the photo will be forwarded once it becomes available.

Henderson Fire responded to the scene to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported in this incident.

These are the details known at this point in the investigation. However, it is important to reiterate that the investigation is still ongoing. We will continue to investigate all the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident diligently and will provide any significant updates as they become available.

The department is preparing a Critical Incident Community Briefing that will provide the details related to this incident. We expect this to be completed and released in the next few weeks.

This is the third officer-involved shooting in 2022.
