Henderson, Nev. – (September 27, 2022) On September 26th, at approximately 6:54 a.m., the City of Henderson Police Department responded to a business at the 10000 block of South Eastern Avenue to a report of a suspicious male who was seen carrying a firearm in a holster.

While patrol officers were enroute, updates were provided that the suspicious male matched the description of a suspect from a domestic incident that occurred earlier that morning.

When officers arrived on scene, they encountered the male suspect, and a brief foot pursuit ensued.

The male suspect attempted to gain illegal entry into stopped vehicles in the roadway but was unsuccessful. An officer then deployed a taser cartridge which was ineffective.

The male suspect unholstered his handgun, aimed it at the officer, and discharged the handgun striking the officer in the face.  The injured officer was able to return gunfire, striking the suspect.

Officers immediately began life saving measures until the suspect was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The involved officer was transported to a local hospital where he is in stable condition.

Preliminarily, the investigation suggests the weapon produced was a replica BB gun; however, further investigation is needed to confirm the capability of the suspected weapon.

The name of the decedent will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office pending notification of the next of kin.

As this is an open investigation, no further details will be released at this time.

This is the second officer-involved shooting for 2022.

The involved Henderson Police Officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, and the name will be released after 48 hours, per department policy.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to call the Henderson Police Department at 702-267-4911, 3-1-1, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or visit Crime Stoppers website.
