Henderson, Nev. – Henderson’s Mayor and Council approved the City’s budget for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2022 today during a public hearing. The City’s fiscal year 2022 General Fund expenditures for daily operations are projected to total $295.9 million with about 58% earmarked for public safety, which continues to be a top priority for the City’s vision to be America’s premier community. 

The Property Tax and Consolidated Tax comprise more than 70% of the City of Henderson’s General Fund revenue. Assessed valuation of real property is projected to approach the historical high seen in 2009 prior to the Great Recession with the City’s Property Tax revenue anticipated to be about $93 million. Consolidated Tax revenue is estimated to be $121.4 million, a 10.4% increase over fiscal year 2021.

“The fiscal year 2022 budget is balanced without the need to use the City’s Financial Stabilization Fund due to cost-saving measures implemented during the pandemic and stimulus funding received through the CARES and American Rescue Plan acts,” said City Manager/CEO Richard Derrick. “Next year’s budget demonstrates the City’s resiliency and strong determination by City leadership and staff to make tough decisions to balance the budget while delivering uninterrupted services to the community in the midst of the pandemic.”

The City of Henderson fiscal year 2022 budget includes funding for:
• Construction of a new police station and training facility in west Henderson
• Hiring 15 additional police officers in the Sales and Use Tax Fund to support the west Henderson police station
• Construction of a new crime lab to replace the current aging facility, to house one of only three accredited, public-funded forensic laboratories in the state
• Construction of a workforce training center in partnership with College of Southern Nevada, to prepare the workers that will be needed for high-tech jobs created in Henderson
• Addition of four staff in the Development Services Center to support development activities in west Henderson

The City of Henderson maintains an AA+ bond rating with Standard and Poor’s, the highest rating among the incorporated cities in Nevada. The City also continues to have one of the lowest employee-to-citizen ratios in the state with about 6.4 full-time employees for every 1,000 residents.
