HENDERSON, Nev. (Sept. 14, 2023) – The City of Henderson is proud to announce its City Clerk’s Office was honored with the Freedom Award for Innovation in Election Administration by the National Association of Election Officials.

The City Clerk’s Office was awarded for its strategic and innovative 2023 Professional Practices Program called “Polls, Peace, and Pups: Mental Health and Wellness in an Election Environment.”

During the 2023 special election, the Polls, Peace and Pups program was implemented in collaboration with the Office of Emergency Management to ensure election poll workers had proper care, including breaks for rehydration and quiet areas to help relax and destress. The program also implemented a licensed therapy dog to foster positivity and calm.

“Election Day can become an overwhelming task for our poll workers, so this past year, we wanted to ensure our team's wellbeing through the Polls, Peace and Pups program,” said City Clerk Jose Luis Valdez. “Taking care of our poll workers is paramount to providing the best experience and service to our voters."

The City of Henderson’s innovative approach to staff wellness earned the distinction from the National Association of Election Officials, and demonstrates the City's commitment to high-performing public service.
