Henderson, Nev. – The City of Henderson has been recognized by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) in the 2020 Municipal Equality Index (MEI). Conducted annually, the MEI is used to measure how inclusive a city’s laws, policies, and services are for the LGBTQ community. This year the City of Henderson’s MEI score rose to 94, ranking Henderson among the highest-scoring cities in the state of Nevada among those analyzed this year. Thanks to actions taken by the City of Henderson over the past few years, the City’s score rose 38 points over its 2017 MEI score of 56.

“This recognition from the Human Rights Campaign shows the commitment that the City of Henderson has toward advancing policies that are inclusive and protective of the rights of our LGBTQ residents and visitors,” said Henderson Mayor Debra March. “And we will continue to  make our progressive community even more welcoming to everyone who chooses to live, learn, work, and play in Henderson.”

 

The 2020 Municipal Equality Index analyzed 506 American cities, including 10 in Nevada. The national average city score was 64. Municipalities are rated on five categories:
• Non-discrimination laws
• Municipality as an employer
• Municipal services
• Law enforcement
• City leadership's public position on equality
