Henderson, Nev. – (June 10th, 2024) The City of Henderson Police have concluded an enhanced traffic enforcement effort designed to make roadways safer through increased patrol saturations, specifically checking on seat belt use by drivers and their passengers, after being contacted for other primary traffic violations.

Seat belt violations are secondary offenses in the state of Nevada.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “the national use rate was 91.9% in 2023,” supporting that “many Americans understand the lifesaving value of the seat belt.”

There were four (4) motorists encountered violating the seatbelt law after being stopped for other violations during the “Click It or Ticket” enhanced enforcement period that ran through May 31st, 2024.

Officers made a total of 353 traffic stops resulting in 357 cited violations. Of the 353 traffic stops, 260 drivers were cited for speeding, as well as multiple other various violations.

The Henderson Police Department received $196,000 in federal funding for the enhanced enforcement initiatives through the Nevada Department of Public Safety - Office of Traffic Safety for the 2024 Joining Forces program.

The grant provides funding for enhanced enforcement and education to reduce deaths and injuries on Nevada roadways. Enforcement events during the year focus on pedestrian safety, seat belt use, speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving.
